Pep Guardiola lavished praise on Manchester City despite their 4-4 English Premier League draw to Chelsea on Sunday evening.
City succumbed to a 95th-minute Cole Palmer penalty to drop two points in an eight-game thriller played at Stamford Bridge.
Before that in the first half, Erling Haaland had opened the scoring for City via a controversial penalty, before goals from Thiago Silva and Raheem Sterling (who is former City player ) drew Chelsea back in front.
Before the break, it was 2-all after Manuel Akanji equalized in added time after being left unmarked in the box.
Immediately after the restart, Haaland put City ahead before the scores got level again after the hour-mark following Nicholas Jackson’s goal.
With four minutes left on the clock, Rodri thought he had won it for City, but Former City forward Palmer netted a penalty at almost the death to deny City the game’s maximum points.
Despite the eight goals and all the drama, City manager Guardiola was proud of his team’s performance on the day.
“I’m happy and nothing to complain about, just a few mistakes but it happens when the opponent pushes and plays at this level.” Guardiola said after the game to BBC Sport before adding,
“The result could be better, but it could be worse. It was a good advert for the Premier League. Both sides tried to win. They started better. They’ve built something new with a lot of young players. We also had our moments. It was a fair result.”
“You control the middle, so you control the game. But they have these guys Gallagher, Caicedo, Enzo, Cole, and Sterling come inside again.
“They are a really good team so there’s no doubt. Liverpool couldn’t win. They were much much better than Arsenal and in the end, Arsenal drew. So you know, it’s Chelsea, they won’t go away.”
This draw against Chelsea takes City a point above Arsenal and Liverpool at the Premier League summit after 12 games.
After the international break, they will host Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium.
