Arsenal blew away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against West Ham at the London Stadium this afternoon.
It is the second time in a row that Arsenal are dropping points from a winning position, having done the same against Liverpool last weekend.
Arsenal started the match well, scoring two quick goals in the first 10 minutes of the match through Gabriel Jesus and team captain Martin Ødegaard and you would think they were going to control proceedings but West Ham had other ideas.
The Hammers settled and grew into the match and started creating their chances, getting the breakthrough in the 33rd minute when Gabriel Magalhães fouled Lucas Paqueta in the area. Saïd Benrahma sent Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale the wrong way to pull one back for Hammers.
In the second half, West Ham came back a better team but Arsenal were awarded a penalty in the 52nd minute for Michail Antonio’s handbaall but star boy Bukayo Saka, who had been quiet for most of the match, sent the ball wide off the post.
Saka’s miss will haunt him for some time as West Ham equalised a minute later when Jarrod Bowen volleyed home past Ramsdale.
Arsenal didn’t pose much threat even after losing the lead, and it would be West Ham with better chances, even coming close to getting the winner when Antonio’s header brushed off the crossbar in the eighth minute.
The draw means Arsenal are now only four points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, and the Citizens have a game in hand. The title race is now heated up with seven matches to go.
