Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Kai Havertz from Chelsea for a fee of £65 million.
The forward, who underwent a medical over the weekend now moves from the blue side for London to the red and white side, and Arsenal will now pay an initial £62 million to Chelsea and a further £3 million in add-ons.
Havertz has signed a five-year deal to keep him at the club until 2028 and expressed his admiration for the mentality at Arsenal before saying that he will give everything while there so they can win trophies.
“The mentality in the Arsenal squad is very high and you can feel that. That was one of the reasons why it has been so hard to play against Arsenal recently.
“The aim is to win trophies and I’m going to give everything to do that for the supporters and everyone at the club. I’m now looking forward to meeting all the players and the staff when we come back for pre-season.” Havertz said in a video that was shared by Arsenal shortly after confirming his transfer.
Arsenal have long been admirers of Havertz and first scouted him even before he made his Bundesliga debut for Bayer Leverkusen aged just 17. Since joining Chelsea from Leverkusen three years ago in a deal worth up to £90 million, he has made 139 appearances for the club, scoring 32 goals and providing 15 assists in all competitions.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described Havertz as a versatile and intelligent player that will boost Arsenal’s midfield.
“Kai is a player of top quality. He has great versatility and is an intelligent player. He will bring a huge amount of extra strength to our midfield and variety to our play.” Arteta said.
Arsenal see the 24-year-old German international as a quality player who can play several roles within their system and who offers different attributes to their existing forwards.
