Arsenal have reached an agreement with Brentford for the signing of goalkeeper David Raya.
The north London club have agreed to pay in the region of £ 30 million including add-ons for the services of the 27-year-old.
Raya is expected to sign a five-year deal until 2028 with the option of a further year. It was reported earlier this month that Arsenal had made an opening offer slightly below the sum Brentford were seeking.
But negotiations continued between the clubs and it now looks like Raya will join Mikel Arteta’s side. Bayern Munich had also been pursuing Raya, but he favoured a move to Arsenal, where he is set to be reunited with former Brentford goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana.
The Gunners want the Spain international who had a year left on his Brentford contract to compete with current first choice goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale.
Raya played in all of Brentford’s 38 Premier League matches last season as they finished with the fifth-best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding 46 goals.
Mikel Arteta is keen for competition in his squad and Ramsdale is just the latest who would have his position put under pressure should Raya be signed.
With Raya’s transfer poised to be finalised, Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Matt Turner.
The 29-year-old impressed for USA recently in the Gold Cup and has reached an agreement to join Nottingham Forest.
