Arsenal will finish the season in second position and qualify for the Champions League. News reaching our desk indicate that Arsenal’s bosses are pleased with Mikel Arteta’s work and will back him to spend and strengthen his squad for next season.
After identifying West Ham captain Declan Rice as the top target, Arsenal are planning to make transfer bids for two other midfield players in the summer. One is coming from Premier League champions Manchester City while the other is from London rivals Chelsea.
According to numerous reports, Arsenal will attempt to sign Manchester City captain Ilkay Gundogan. The German midfielder’s contract expires in June this year and talks over a contract extension have not yet been successful.
Arsenal will have to battle La Liga winners Barcelona who are also hugely interested in Gundogan and have been heavily linked with him for over a month now.
If this move materializes, Gundogan will join former teammates Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko who joined Arsenal from Manchester City last season and have quickly settled in at Emirates Stadium.
Another player Arsenal are readying a move for is Mason Mount. Mount has had a rather lacklustre season with Chelsea just like the entire Chelsea squad. Mount has been at Chelsea since he was six but sources close to him say he would be ready for a move away from Stamford Bridge next season and Chelsea would be ready to sell him in the summer if a good offer comes through.
Arsenal’s midfield has become an area in dire need of reinforcement. Thomas Partey can be prone to injury, January signing Jorginho will enter the final year of his contract while Granit Xhaka is reportedly leaving the club.
Arsenal are ready to spend, and Mount would not be the only player to cross over from Stamford Bridge to the Emirates, with William Borges, David Luiz and Petr Cech doing the same in recent times.
