With the form that Tottenham Hotspurs is currently exhibiting, Spurs captain Heung-min Son believes Arsenal will not want to face them on Sunday.
Ahead of the North-London derby, both Arsenal and Spurs are level on points (13) after their first five Premier League games of the season.
Having finished eighth on the log last term, Tottenham have adapted quickly under new Head Coach Ange Postecoglou’s ideas. They have found the back of the net at least twice, they have the second most goals in the league so far (13) and are still unbeaten.
With that kind of form, Son says it’s the right time to face Arsenal, who are also unbeaten in the league and who were superb on their return to the Champions League as they beat PSV 4-0 on Wednesday.
“We have had a week to prepare well and I know what it means for the club, the fans and players as well. We understand what kind of game it is,” Son said as quoted by the Evening Standard.
“It’s going to be a really difficult game but they won’t want to face us at this time. We just have to give it everything we have but we’re looking forward to this game because it’s the right time to play against them. We’ll have a good game.
“It is a special game, for them as well. The result is probably the most important of the season. The result I can’t promise you but one thing I can guarantee – we’re going to give everything for this club, especially on Sunday.”
Despite their brilliant form this season, Spurs will go into this game knowing they have not won at Emirates Stadium since 2010. They have lost eight of their 12 visits at the Emirates- including a 3-1 score line last season.
According to Son, the mood around Spurs has been transformed by Postecoglou since he took over in the summer.
“In the changing room, the club and the stadium, the vibes are really, really positive. For example, on Tuesday I had an anti-doping test after training and the guy said, ‘Wow, he changed the vibes!’
“Because last year they turned up and could see us being down. On Tuesday, he came and said the vibe is much better than last year and looks really, really positive. Which is what you’re looking for.”
