La Liga Champions Barcelona have completed the signing of midfielder Oriol Romeu from Girona.
The former Chelsea and Southampton player has put pen to paper on a three-year deal until 2026 to become Barcelona’s third addition this window after IIkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez.
Romeu makes a return to the club where he spent seven years before joining Chelsea in 2011 for €5 million
He progressed through Barcelona’s academy, La Masia in those seven years to make two senior appearances under the then head coach Pep Guardiola.
He returned to Spain last summer after having spent seven years at Southampton – featuring in 256 games and scoring eight goals .
He signed for Girona last summer and was impressive in the Catalan’s midfield as they finished 10th on the La Liga log.
As part of Romeu’s move to Barcelona, youngster Pablo Torre has moved to Girona on a season-long loan.
The 31-year old joins Barcelona as a direct replacement to Sergio Busquets, who left the club at the end of last season for Inter Miami.
Gundogan, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Sergi Roberto and Frank Kessie are the other midfield options for coach Xavi Hernandez heading into the new season.
They will open up their 2023/24 La Liga Season against Getafe away from home on August 13th.
