Barcelona youngster Pablo Martín Gavi scored the lone goal as Spain secured victory over Norway in Oslo to qualify for next year’s European Championship in Germany.
Gavi’s goal came in the second half following a goalmouth scramble for the youngster to turn the ball in.
Spain dominated the match throughout and were unfortunate not to score early on. Alvaro Morata had his first-half goal disallowed after the striker was judged to be offside before tapping into the empty net.
But after the break, Spain got their deserved goal as Gavi steered home a loose ball into Norway’s goal following a goalmouth scramble.
Before this goal was allowed, a lengthy stoppage took place to review whether Morata, who was offside interfered with the ball, but he was found innocent.
Aside from those two attempts, both sides created little throughout the game. Norway’s only goal scoring chance fell to youngster Antonio Nusa, who looked lively after coming off the bench.
Spain with this victory go top of the group, above Scotland on goal difference, while Norway remain third, five points adrift with just one game left to play.
The result means Spain and Scotland qualify for Euros 2024, while Norway will now have to hope they get the chance to qualify through the playoffs if they can maintain their log position.
Spain and Scotland will now battle for top spot in the group. In their last two games, Spain will face Cyprus and Georgia while Scotland take on Georgia and Norway.
