Rejuvenated Liverpool and high-flying Manchester United lock horns at Anfield on Sunday in the battle of the Premier League heavyweights.
The two arch rivals meet in differing form as Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool seek to continue with their rejuvenated form while Erik Ten Hag’s team try to maintain their red-hot form.
The last time these two rivals met, the red Devils came out victors following their 2-1 win at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are in a terrific form, and they will fancy their chances to down their arch-rivals at Anfield following their disappointing run against the Kops in the last six seasons. They have not beaten Liverpool home and way since the 2015/16 season.
Liverpool have been on an inconsistent run lately but they are on a recovery mode as they have won three of their last four league games.
The Kops will hope that Mo Salah will be motivated enough to chase a record set by Allan Shearer. The Egyptian has scored 8 goals against Man United. Only Allan Shearer with 10 has scored more against the Red Devils.
Salah also has another record to chase. If he scores, he will equal Robbie Fowler’s all time 128 goals for the club.
Speaking to SkySports, Klopp acknowledged the magnitude of this game. He said:
“Its a massive one, and over the years, it has always been difficult games and great atmospheres in both stadiums. I respect what they are doing so it’s a big game.”
Man United who are placed 3rd in the table standings will head to Anfield hoping to keep up with pace setters Arsenal and Man City who are 1st and 2nd respectively . They will need their current form to stick with them for them to earn maximum points at Anfield
Ten hag’s men are currently in blistering form as they have lost only once in their last 11 premier league games. Marcus Rashford who has notched 10 goals in his last 10 premier league games will be expected to lead the line. He will become the fourth manchester United player to score in six successive Premier League games should he score at Anfield.
