Bayern Munich maintained their 100% run in the Champions League this season following their 2-0 win over PSG in the second leg of the last 16 in Champions league.
It was a victory that saw them advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League on a 3-0 aggregate win.
The Bavarians who won the first leg of this fixture 1-0 at Parc des Princes proved too strong for Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi’s PSG. They enjoyed a larger share of the possession although PSG had their own moments.
The visitors started on the front foot with Morrocan International Achraf Hakimi making a run down the right, but his cross didn’t cause any damage as it sailed out wide in the 10th minute.
They continued to come at the German Champions! In the 24th minute, they almost got an opener, but stumbled before Yann Sommer swiftly came to rescue the situation.
Christophe Galtier’s side soon got the pinch of their hosts when two chances from Erick Choupo-Moting and Jamal Musiala came into play, but those efforts were perfectly delt with custodian Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The visitors tried to pile pressure at Bayern but the backline that had Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt stood firm to cut out the Parisians attacks.
PSG’s best chance came in the 38th minute when they thought they had gotten a breakthrough, but Vitinha’s effort with Sommer already beaten went begging.
Bayern also raided PSG down the left side but Alphonsi Davies’ dangerous low cross was cut out for a fruitless corner kick shortly before the halftime break.
After recess, the 2020 Champions returned in another shell with immediate impact which saw Choupo-moting’s goal disallowed due to Thomas Muller’s involvement. The German was adjudged to be offside.
The Cameroon International was on the mark once again in the 61st minute and this time it stood. He struck the vital opener following Muller’s pressure on Marco Verratti before dispossessing him to set up the Cameroonian for an easy tap-in.
The visitors continued their surge upfront. Sommer was forced to full stretch by a strong header from Messi’s corner kick delivery in the 64th minute, and in quick succession, Mbappe was denied by the Swiss custodian as they desperately tried to get back into the game.
Bayern nearly doubled the lead in the 69th minute with a quick counter attack but Mendes’ good anticipation helped to cut out a killer pass that would have resulted in the second goal.
Serge Gnabry who came on for Kingsley Coman finally killed off the game with a brilliant strike beating Donnarumma to the far post to send the Parisians packing in the 89th minute.
Bayern finally won 2-0 on the night and advanced 3-0 on aggregates to the quarter finals . The Bavarians are yet to lose or draw single game in the Champions League this season.
