Bayern Munich have won the German Bundesliga for the 11th consecutive season after a dramatic final day.
The Munich side needed a late Jamal Musiala’s winner to beat Cologne 2-1 and snatch the title from Borussia Dortmund by the tightest of margins.
Dortmund came into the final day sitting two points clear on top, but draw 2-2 at home to Mainz to lose out on the title on goal difference.
Having come into the game needing to win and hope for a favour from Mainz, Bayern grabbed an early lead through Kingsley Coman’s stunning strike. This took them top of the log at the end of the first half as Dortmund were two-goals down against Mainz.
With 21 minutes remaining on the clock, Raphael Guerreiro pulled a goal back for Dortmund to make it 2-1.
This meant that Dortmund still needed to win their game to be crowned Champions as Bayern was still leading 1-0.
Despite still losing their game, Dortmund fans jubilated a few minutes later after they got the news that Cologne had gotten an equaliser against Bayern from the spot.
But this excitement was dashed away a few minutes later as Musiala got set-up by Sergi Gnabry to restore Bayern’s lead, and take the Bavarian back to the top.
This meant Dortmund once again needed two goals to win the game and consequently win the title, but they got just one in the 96th minute through Nickolas Sule to just level their game as the game finished 2-2.
Both Bayern and Dortmund finish the season on 71 points in 34 games, but the Thomas Tuchel’s side win the title after having an inferior goal difference.
