Ben Chilwell has revealed that Mauricio Pochettino owes the team a dinner after the Chelsea manager vowed to take them out if they completed the famous Gacon test.
According to Chilwell, the whole team finished the test which involved doing 10 runs, and now they are waiting for the manager to fulfill his promise.
“We did the Gacon test, we were meant to do 10 runs but we got to the 8th and the manager, I don’t know if he was doing a mental trick, said we could stop if we wanted.” Chilwell revealed to The Athletic.
“Everyone was on their knee’s and he said “If everyone completes the next two, I’ll take you all out for Dinner, of course we all finished, and we’re now waiting for the dinner.”
The Gacon test is one of Pochettino’s grueling training sessions during pre season and he uses it to analyse if a player can increase their speed. It entails 45 seconds of running and 15 seconds of rest. The running distance incrementally increases for every run with running time static.
Chelsea are hoping for a better 2023/24 season having finished 12th on the English Premier League log last season, and missing out on European qualification for only the second time in 15 years.
They have so far played three pre-season games in the USA, winning two and drawing the other. They beat Wrexham 5-0 in their first game, before doing the same to Brighton and Hove Albion a few days later.
Sunday’s game against Fulham will be their penultimate game in USA before their return to London to take on Borussia Dortmund, and consequently prepare for their first game of the season against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
