Bayern Munich saw off PSG with a 1-0 victory in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League last sixteen to maintain their spotless run in the competition this season that now reads 7 consecutive wins.
The Bavarians who won all their group stage games dominated proceedings from the word go, but it was their lack of sharpness upfront plus PSG’s good defending that kept the scoreline 0-0 at halftime.
Julian Nagelsmann’s men after the interval started from where they left and eight minutes into the half, Kingsley Coman had broken the deadlock following Alphonse Davies’ cross. It was Coman’s fourth goal in 3 games in all completions.
Erick Choupo-Moting who was also involved in the first goal came close to doubling the lead but fell short of perfection. Then Benjamin Pavard came in play! From his header, the visitors almost made it two but thanks to PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donarumma, the score was kept at 1-0.
Bayern continued with their dominance! It was not untill PSG tactician Christophe Galtier brought in Kylian Mbappe that the hosts began to threaten.
Mbappe who was just returning from injury had one of his chances denied from close range by goalkeeper Yann Sommer. He then scored a would be equaliser in the 82nd minute, but it was ruled out for offside by the VAR.
PSG continued to search for an equaliser and in the 92nd minute, Lionel Messi who was clear on goal was fouled by Pavard, but other than the French right-back seeing red card, the resultant freekick yielded nothing for PSG.
In the end, Bayern Munich took home their deserved victory.
The two will meet again two weeks from now in the return leg of the fixture.
