Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema will leave the club at the end of this season and join Saudi Arabian club Al Ittihad.
According to ESPN, Benzema, who extended his contract with Los Blancos just a couple of months ago has agreed to join Al Ittihad on a two-year contract worth €400 million.
Benzema joined Real Madrid from Lyon over fourteen years ago and became the club’s second-highest goal scorer with 353 goals, just behind the club’s all-time record scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo.
In the recently concluded 2022/23 season, the Frenchman scored 26 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions for Real Madrid and helped the club win the Copa del Rey, the FIFA Club World Cup, and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
After joining Madrid, Benzema had to compete with Gonzalo Higuain for a place in the starting lineup before becoming a part of Madrid’s iconic “BBC” attack partnership with Gareth Bale and Ronaldo.
Benzema became Real Madrid’s main attacker in 2018 when Ronaldo moved to Juventus and this is when he really showed the world what a great striker he is that ended in him being named the Ballon d’Or winner last year in October.
His time at Real Madrid has been trophy-laden. He has won a total of 24 trophies that include four La Liga titles, five Champions Leagues, three Copas del Rey, three Spanish Supercopas, four UEFA Super Cups and five FIFA Club World Cups.
Benzema will join former teammate Ronaldo who is also in Saudi Arabia Pro League, but playing for Al Ittihad’s rivals Al Nasr.
