France legends Thierry Henry and Emmanuel Petit were left in disgust and in disbelief following PSG fans booing of one of football greats Lionel Messi.
The seven-time Ballon D’or winner who recently inspired Argentina to their 3rd World Cup in Qatar last year was whistled by the home fans during PSG’s 1-0 loss to Lyon on Sunday at Parc des Princes.
Speaking to Prime Video France Sports, Henry who won the Champions League with the Argentine at Barcelona said;
“It’s embarrassing to hear whistles from the Parc. You can’t whistle one of the best players on the team, who has 13 goals and 13 assists this season.”
The Premier League great implored the 35-year-old to leave the Ligue 1 club saying: “For the love of football, he should go back to Barcelona.”
In the same breathe, Petit, a World Cup winner with France, and a Premier League legend himself was left satiated at the whistles.
He said: “When I see the whistles against Messi, it’s an insult to football. If I have any advice for Messi: get out of this club! PSG is not a football club.
“PSG is a pre-retirement club, even for 20-year-old players. There is no player who has progressed since he arrived at PSG, is it Messi’s fault? He’s a maestro with the ball.” Petit was speaking to RMC Sport.
It is understood that Messi will not renew his contract with the defending Ligue 1 champions who are currently top of the table with 66 points, 6 ahead of second placed Lens.
Messi is understood to be headed back to Barcelona with the club hierarchy more than willing to bring back their greatest player at the Camp Nou.
