Brazil are still hoping to convince Carlo Ancelotti to be their next head coach and fill the vacant position that was left by Tite following the World Cup in Qatar in December last year.
Ancelotti has been Brazil’s number one target for the post despite repeatedly saying that he is happy at Real Madrid.
“Everyone knows really well what my situation is. I have a contract until the end of the 2024 season and I want to stay,” Ancelotti told reporters who asked about his future in a press conference.
The Confederation of Brazilian Football (CBF) president, Ednaldo Rodrigues, had set May as the deadline for deciding on the next coach for Brazil but is set to extend that in the hope of persuading Ancelotti.
In the event that Ancelotti decisively declines the offer, Brazil have other managers on their radar they will turn to, including AS Roma’s Jose Mourinho, Fenerbahce’s Jorge Jesus, Fluminense’s Fernando Diniz, and Palmeiras’ Abel Ferreira.
CBF has announced two friendly matches against Guinea and Cameroon next month with current U20 head coach Ramon Menezes set to be in charge for both matches.
Ancelotti has never managed a national football team but he has expressed interest in managing one in the past with ESPN reporting a few months ago that his Brazilian players at Real Madrid have been teasing him about taking up the role with Brazil.
Brazil were eliminated from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the quarter-final stage after losing a penalty shootout against Croatia.
