Brighton and Hove Albion ended Manchester United’s 20-match unbeaten Premier League home run following their 3-1 win over the Red Devils on Saturday.
Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and substitute Joao Pedro scored the three goals for the Seagulls while youngster Hannibal Mejbri scored a sensational late consolation goal for the Red Devils who were disappointingly out-played at their own backyard.
With just 20 minutes on the clock, Welbeck came back to haunt the Man United for the fifth time in his career by breaking the deadlock with a cool finish following a Simon Adingra pass.
Gross added the second for Brighton with a fine low finish on 53 minutes from Tariq Lamptey’s pass before the creative full-back once again picked out substitute Pedro to ooze in a third for the visitors on 71 minutes.
Two minutes after Pedro’s goal, United pulled a goal back through Hannibal, who drilled home a consolation from a distance.
Before Brighton’s two goals in the second half, United thought they had equalised via Rasmus Hojlund’s finish in the 40th minute, but VAR ruled out the goal after Marcus Rashford had failed to keep the ball in play before the cutback to the Danish striker.
With today’s victory, Brighton have now won their last four league games against United and have also ended the Red Devils’ 20-match English Premier League unbeaten home run.
The defeat is now United’s third loss of the season in five games and now occupies 12th position on the table with just six points, nine below their city rivals Manchester City.
For Brighton, they move to fourth place on the log with 12 points after garnering their fourth victory of the season.
