Brighton sign Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona

English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed the signing of Ansu Fati on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

Several Premier League sides voiced an interest in Fati, with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur among the sides to ask for updates on the 20-year-old, but it is Brighton who have won the race for his signature.

“We are pleased to confirm the signing of Ansu Fati on a season-long loan from Barcelona.” Part of the Brighton statement read.

Fati was instrumental for Barcelona last season as they won their first La Liga title in four years. He featured in 36 games and scored seven goals.

The 20-year old came through the famous Barcelona academy, La Masia and has gone on to break several records at the Spanish club since he made his senior debut.

He became the Club’s second youngest player to make his debut when he came on as a substitute in a 5-2 win over Real Betis in August 2019. He later become became Barca’$ youngster goalscorer six days after making his debut.

In September 2019, he became Barcelona’s youngest Champions League player and his goal against Inter Milan in December the same year made him the youngest goalscorer in Champions League history.

In 2021, he won the Goal.com NxGn Award as the best emerging young player in the world after having been impressive for Barcelona and Spain.

He joins a Brighton and Hove Albion side coached by Roberto De Zerbi and who will be playing in the Europa League this season after having finished fifth on the Premier League last season.
