The 2023/24 Bundesliga season continued over the weekend with nine games held at various stadiums across Germany.
Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig emerged as the standout winners of the weekend, convincingly defeating Darmstadt and Koln, respectively.
Leverkusen continued to impress with their excellent form, while Dortmund struggled and dropped points.
Here’s a recap of all the Bundesliga action from the weekend.
Friday:
VFL Bochum failed to maintain their lead in the later stages of the game, settling for a 2-2 draw with Mainz in a relegation battle.
Kevin Stöger and Keven Schlotterbeck scored for Bochum, while Mainz’s goals came through a Schlotterbeck own goal and a late strike by Tom Krauß. This result moved Bochum up to 16th place, with Mainz remaining 18th.
Saturday:
In a thrilling match at WWK Arena, 10-man Augsburg came from behind to defeat Wolfsburg 3-2.
Jonas Wind and Lovro Majer put Wolfsburg ahead, but second-half goals by Phillip Tietz, Arne Engels, and an own goal by Sebastiaan Bornauw secured a vital victory for Augsburg.
At the Weserstadion, Werder Bremen defeated Union Berlin 2-0, courtesy of a Robin Knoche own goal and a Marvin Ducksch strike.
At the Allianz Arena, Harry Kane scored a hat-trick as Bayern Munich humiliated a 9-man Darmstadt 8-0, extending their unbeaten streak and moving to the second place on the league table.
Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala each found the net twice, while Thomas Muller also got on the scoresheet.
Borussia Monchengladbach overcame Heidenheim 2-1, with Jonas Föhrenbach scoring an own goal in the second half at Borrusia Park.
Hoffenheim handed Stuttgart their second loss of the season with a 3-2 victory. Grischa Prömel, Robert Skov, and Wout Weghorst gave Hoffenheim a three-goal lead, before Denis Undav and Chris Führich scored two goals for Stuttgart in an attempt to stage a comeback.
In another one-sided match, RB Leipzig humiliated 10-man Koln 6-0 at Red Bulls Arena, with Luis Openda netting a double. Four other players, including Timo Werner, David Raum, Benjamin Šeško, and Christoph Baumgartner, contributed to the goal-fest.
Sunday:
Borussia Dortmund dropped two points in the title race as they drew 3-3 with Eintracht Frankfurt away from home. They had to come from behind to secure that point. Omar Marmoush scored twice to give Frankfurt a two-goal lead in the first 30 minutes of the game, but Marcel Sabitzer pulled a goal back for Dortmund before the break. The scores went to 3-1 after the break following Farès Chaïbi’s strike, but Youssoufa Moukoko and Julian Brandt scored two late goals for Dortmund to ensure their side maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
To wrap up the weekend, League leaders Bayer Leverkusen secured their eighth victory of the season by defeating Freiburg 2-1, thanks to Florian Wirtz and Jonas Hoffman’s goals.
After nine games played by each club, Leverkusen maintains their position at the top of the league table with 25 points, two points ahead of Bayern Munich, who now sit in second place following Stuttgart’s slip.
