Another exciting Bundesliga weekend is upon us as 12-time champions Bayern Munich battle VFL Bochum while Dortmund face Wolfsburg.
Bayern are still unbeaten in all competitions this season with four victories in their five games thus far.
After dropping their first League points last weekend against log leaders Bayer Leverkusen in a 2-2 draw, Thomas Tuchel’s side held on to beat Manchester United 4-3 in their opening Champions League opening game on Wednesday so they will head into the Bochum game tomorrow aiming to continue with their bright start.
Bochum are winless so far this season as they have drawn three of their opening four games in the league. They currently sit 13th, two points above the relegation zone.
Bayern has found beating Bochum so easy in the last few years as they have won three of their last four Bundesliga meetings, scoring 21 goals in the process. Two of those three victories were by a thumping 7-0 scoreline – one on home soil in September 2021 and the other on the road in August last year.
Bayern’s home record has also been brilliant in the last 25 Bundesliga games at Arianz Arena as they have lost only once in those games. 17 have been victories while eight games ended in stalemates.
Bochum’s last victory against Bayern came last year when they defeated the record Bundesliga champions 4-2 in February 2022. That’s their only competitive victory in the last 17 meetings.
In the other Bundesliga fixture of the weekend, Borrusia Dortmund will seek to put aside their midweek Champions League defeat to PSG when they welcome Wolfsburg to Westfalenstadion.
Dortmund is seventh on the log with eight points while Wolfsburg are a place and a point above in sixth.
Dortmund are yet to lose in the Bundesliga this season, but they have dropped points in disappointing scoring draws against both VfL Bochum and newly-promoted Heidenheim. Their two victories this season came against Koln and Freiburg.
Despite dropping those points, they are just two points off the summit with four games played.
On Saturday, they face a Wolfsburg side who they have enjoyed plenty of success playing against in the past years.
Dortmund have won each of their last five home meetings with Wolfsburg, keeping four clean sheets in the process. BVB most recently thrashed the Wolves 6-0 at Westfalenstadion in May this year, 13 months after cruising to a 6-1 home victory in the previous campaign.
For Wolfsburg, they have started this season well as they have won four of their opening five matches in all competitions.
Last year, they beat Dortmund 2-0 at home in November. They will be seeking to win their first top-flight away game at Westfalenstadion since a 3-2 win in December 2012.
Apart from Bayern and Dortmund games, there are six other games on menu. VFB Stuttgart will kick-off match day five at home against Darmstadt on Friday. On Saturday, RB Liepzig will play Borrusia Monchengladbach, Union Berlin will battle Hoffenheim, Augsburg tackles Mainz while Werder Bremen will take on Koln.
On Sunday, Log leader Bayern Leverkusen will be in action on Sunday against Heidenheim while Eintracht Frankfurt will be at home against Freiburg.
