Bundesliga: Dortmund out to go top

Bundesliga action continues on Saturday with Dortmund visiting relegation threatened Hoffenheim at the Rhein-Necka-Arena looking to go top of the Bundesliga table.

Dortmund will achieve that with victory over Hoffenheim while hoping for a draw between Bayern Munich and Union Berlin as the two face-off on Sunday. The trio are locked on 43 points each with Bayern only atop on goal difference.

Should the die Schwarzgelben win and the Alianz Arena game ends in a stalemate, the yellow boys will assume the summit.

Hoffenheim’ s manager Pellegrino Matarozzo who is yet to win a game will hope to turn around his fortunes this time having lost his first two games in charge.

The 3-1 and 1-0 back to back defeats mean that he remains without a point to his name as Augusburg deprived him of that when an 88th minute strike condemned them to a 1-0 defeat.

The Die Kraichgauer are on a five-game losing streak and have picked up only two points from the last 11 Bundesliga games which leaves them languishing in 15th place and separated from the drop zone by just a superior goal difference.

The hosts will be wary of Dortmund’s attack given the fact that they have conceded more than two goals in each of their nine matches while their opponents are on a free goal-scoring spell having notched 19 goals in their six league wins in 2023.

Dortmund are enjoying an impressive run of form that has seen them win each of their last eight games across all competitions. They demolished Hertha Berlin 4-1 last weekend. Karim Adyemi, Donyell Malen, Marco Reus and Julian Brandt were all on the score sheet.

The Die Schwarzgelben have won their last three games against Hoffenheim and will expect to maintain that run.

The visitors will go atop ahead of their title rivals Bayern Munich and Union Berlin who face-off later on Sunday if they beat Hoffenheim

TEAM NEWS

Hoffenheim are without the services of Jacob Bruun Larsen, Robert Skov and Grischa Promel while Kasper Dolberg and Kevin Vogt are doubtful.
