Bayern Munich came from behind to beat Augusburg 5-3 at the Alianz Arena to maintain their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.
A brace from Benjamin Pavard and strikes from Joao Cancelo, Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies made sure of that victory as the Bavarians went two points clear of second placed Dortmund.
The home side got an early scare when Mergim Berisha fired Augusburg into the lead with a classic finish in the second minute following a flicked pass that he lifted to beat Cancelo before slotting home the opener.
Bayern produced an almost immediate response, but Cancelo’s effort didn’t trouble Augusburg’s custodian Rafal Gikiewicz .
They continued with their surge and in the 10th minute, the Man City loanee Cancelo was on the mark to cancel out Berisha’s strike after skillfully turning his marker before firing a low effort into the bottom corner.
Benjamin Pavard stretched the lead three minutes later when a cross from the right found Sadio mane in the box .The Senegalese crossed for the France international with an overhead kick before the defender connected from close range to make it 2-1.
Pavard then found his second goal of the match as he fired home a spectacular volley following a corner kick delivery from the right to make it 3-1 in the 34th minute.
Julian Naglelsmann’s men created more chances, and one of them forced Gikiewicz to Parry a well drilled effort to a fruitless corner kick in the 39th minute.
Leroy Sane came into the mix! He finished off a team move with a fine header to put the defending Champions in a comfortable 4-1 lead going into the break.
The visitors pulled one back from the penalty spot which Berisha converted as he stambled to the ground sending Sommer the wrong way for his second goal in the 59th minute.
The German champions wrapped up the win with a 74th minute strike from Alphonso Davies following Cancelo’s cross on the right.
Augusburg scored in added minutes following a cut back cross that Irvin Cordona connected home, but the goal could only limit the damage as Bayern cruised to their seemingly comfortable victory.
The win moved Bayern three points clear of Dortmund, but following the Yellows boys draw at Schalke, it pulled Bayern’s top table lead to two points.
Augusburg meanwhile remain in 13th place.
