The 2023/24 Bundesliga title race remains intense as both Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen secured victories over the weekend, maintaining their unbeaten starts to the season.
Bayern defeated Heidenheim 4-2 with Harry Kane netting twice, while Leverkusen triumphed 4-0 against Union Berlin, thanks to goals from Johnathan Tah, Nathan Tella, Alex Grimaldo, and Odilon Kossounou.
Before the weekend games, Leverkusen led the table with 28 points from 10 matches, while Bayern trailed by two points in second place. However, Bayern briefly claimed the top spot for 24 hours after their win at Arianz Arena, only to drop back to second as Leverkusen’s dominant performance against Union Berlin secured their 10th victory of the season, heading into the international break with 31 points in 11 games.
In another thrilling match of the weekend, third-placed VFB Stuttgart came from a goal down to beat Borrusia Dortmund 2-1, with Serhou Guirassy, who was making his return from injury, scoring the winner from the spot.
Denis Undav had earlier scored for Stuggart to cancel out Niklas Füllkrug’s opener for Dortmund.
RB Liepzig also won their game via the weekend as they defeated SC Freiburg 3-1 on Sunday thanks to goals from Luis Openda, Xavi Simons and Christoph Baumgartner.
Other weekend’s results saw Borrusia Monchengladbach defeating Wolfsburg 4-0, Darmstadt drawing 0-0 with Mainz, Augsburg and Hoffenheim settling for a 1-1 draw, and Werder Bremen sharing points with Eintracht Frankfurt in a 2-2 draw. while VFL Bochum and Koln ended in a 1-1 draw.
The 2023/24 Bundesliga will now go into a two-weeks international break which will see several players travel to their respective countries for engagements.
After the break, Bayern will travel to Koln while Leverkusen will also be away at Werder Bremen.
