Casemiro was exceptional for Manchester United as they defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 on Tuesday night to ease into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.
The Brazilian scored one goal and assisted Anthony Martial’s goal as the Red Devils started their cup defense on a high.
Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring for the Erik Ten Hag’s side in the 21st minute thanks to Diogo Dalot’s brilliant pass from the right-hand side.
Six minutes later, United doubled their advantage through Casemiro’s header after the midfielder rose highest to put Mason Mount’s outswinging corner past Sam Johnstone.
Casemiro then got involved in United’s third when he fired in a fantastic ball to the goal post for Martial to finish off and kill any hopes of a Palace comeback.
United had chances to score even more but were denied by Johnstone. The Palace custodian kept out Johnny Evans header before doing the same to Garnacho’s ferocious strike from outside the box.
Palace, though, were horrible throughout the game as they struggled to impose themselves. Their best goalscoring opportunities fell to Jean Philippe Mateta, who failed to beat Andre Onana.
With this victory, United advance to the last 16 while Palace gets eliminated after having played only two games.
These two sides will meet again on Saturday, but this time, in the Premier League.
In some of the other selected Carabao Cup games played on Tuesday, Ipswich Town came back from behind to beat Wolves 3-2, Burnley overcame Salford City 4-0 while Luton Town lost 1-0 to Exeter City.
