Benoit Badiashile, making his first appearance in over a year due to an injury scored as Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers on Wednesday and consequently advance to the quarter finals of Carabao Cup.
Badiashile’s goal came early in the first half after he capitalizes on a mistake by Blackburn goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt. Wahlstedt failed to handle Conor Gallagher’s cross from a set piece, and the defender calmly slotted the ball inside the net for his second goal in Chelsea’s colors.
Raheem Sterling added another goal for Chelsea, who remained in control throughout the game despite the wet conditions at Stamford Bridge.
The England forward picked up the ball from Palmer to curl it past Leopold and ensure that the Blues seal the victory.
Chelsea could have won by a larger margin, but Wahlstedt made several smart saves to keep Blackburn in the game.
In the first half, he saved shots from Reece James and Enzo Fernandez, and in the second half, he stopped a Cole Palmer effort. Palmer himself was unlucky, hitting the woodwork twice in his quest to score.
Blackburn’s best scoring opportunity came late in the game when Arnór Sigurðsson faced off against Roberto Sanchez, but the Chelsea goalkeeper made a brilliant save to deny the Icelandic player.
Chelsea with this victory secure their place in the quarterfinals hence keeping their hopes of winning silverware this season alive.
Next-up for Chelsea, they will travel to the Tottenham Stadium to face Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Monday.
