Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has sued Premier League club Everton FC in London’s high court.
Ancelotti managed Everton for 18 months before throwing in the towel two years ago to return to Madrid for a second spell.
According to The Guardian, Ancelotti’s lawyers filed his claim against his former employers last week on Friday, and the claim relates to “general commercial contracts and arrangements.”
No further details have so far been provided on the matter by both Ancelotti’s lawyers and Everton, but it has already been decided that the matter will be heard in the commercial court’s division of the High Court in London.
Ancelotti had signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Everton in 2019 but when Real Madrid came calling less than two years down the road, he dropped his Everton job on June 1, 2021, and returned to the Spanish giants.
His return has been majorly successful as he has won the La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey and FIFA Club World Cup.
The suit comes at a terrible timing for Everton. The club has just survived relegation from the Premier League and are majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri is still fighting to find a co-financier for the club’s new stadium development.
Several players are also expected to leave the club this summer, with first-team goalkeeper Jordan Pickford reportedly being targeted by Manchester United.
