Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are on the verge of winning a historic treble of the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup this season and if they go ahead and do it, they will be smiling to the bank.
The prize money for the winner of the Premier League this season is £164 million. Manchester City are currently on top of the Premier League with four matches to go and have not lost a single league game since February 5, winning all 10 matches they have played since then.
The Citizens will play city rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final and they are the outright favourites to win it unless Manchester United play some great football. If they win it, they will earn £3.9 million.
Manchester City are in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League and played out a 1-1 draw against defending Champions Real Madrid on Tuesday with the return leg coming on Wednesday next week at Etihad Stadium.
If they win it and win the final against either AC Milan or Inter Milan, which will be their first in history, their earnings from the coveted competition, including group and knockout stage matches will total a decent £117.2 million.
All this adds up to a staggering £285.1 million, which is not so bad at all for a European and domestic champion. The last English team to win a treble was Manchester United towards the end of the century in 1999, but the prize money was definitely not as much as it is today.
Manchester City have spent a fortune in player recruitment and their salaries so winning this much would be a good return on investment, let alone giving them the bragging rights.
