Olivier Giroud scored the all-important goal for AC Milan as they drew 1-all with Napoli to advance to the UEFA Champions League semifinal.
In a game where both sides missed a penalty, Giroud broke the deadlock just before the break to give Milan the lead. Rafael Leao was brilliant in the build-up to that goal as he dribbled past several defenders to set up the lethal Frenchman.
The Frenchman’s goal proved vital for Milan in the later exchanges of the game as Victor Osimhen scored for Napoli to tie the score 1-all on the day. Milan progressed to the semis after a 2-1 aggregate victory over two legs after Stefano Pioli’s side won the first leg 1-0.
Before Giroud scored, the Frenchman was earlier on denied by Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret from the spot.
And after he scored, Napoli were awarded a penalty of their own after Fikayo Tomori handed the ball in the area but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also failed to convert from the spot.
Napoli was the better side of the game but struggled with converting their chances throughout the 90 minutes. Mateo Politano, Osimhen, Mathias Oliveira and Kvaratskhelia all failed to get the ball into the back of the net from their attempts.
AC Milan, who have advanced to the semis will face the winner between Inter and Benfica. Inter won the first game 2-0 away in Portugal with Romelu Lukaku and Nicolo Barella scoring.
