Manchester United blew away two leads at Old Trafford on Tuesday to lose 3-2 to Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Rasmus Hojlund gave United the lead when he scored a bullet header from Marcus Rashford’s cross in the 17th minute, but his goal got cancelled out six minutes later by Wilfried Zaha who outmuscled his marker, Diogo Dalot to scuff a volley into the ground for the equalizer.
After Davison Sanchez slipped in the middle of the pitch ,Hojlund made a brilliant run to put United back in the lead midway through the second half with a neat finish, but United again blew away their lead few minutes later after Kerem Akturkoglu utilised poor Reds defending to put Galatasaray level again.
With the scores level at 2-all, Casemiro got sent off for a second bookable offense after he brought down Dries Mertens in the area while trying to bail out his goalkeeper Andre Onana who had his sloppy pass out of his own area easily intercepted by Mertens.
Luckily for United, Marco Icardi dragged his penalty wide of the post
But the Argentinean soon redeemed himself when he raced through an open defence to dink home the winner past the on-rushing Onana and secure Galatasay’s first win on English soil.
This is a sixth loss for United in all competitions this season. They are now without a point in their opening two UCL games and sit at the bottom of group A. It is the first time ever United is losing their opening two Champions League games.
Erik Ten Hag’s side has now conceded 18 goals in their first ten matches in all competitions this season, their worst start since 1966-67.
For Galatasaray, they now rise to second place in their group with four points garnered in their two games.
United’s next two games in Europe are against Danish giants Copenhagen while Galatasaray will battle group leaders Bayern Munich.
