The UEFA Champions League final, the biggest match in club football is upon us, ladies and gentlemen.
English champions Manchester City will play Inter Milan on Saturday in Istanbul, Turkey in a match that will decide who is the ultimate champion of Europe.
The match will also decide who ends the season with a treble of trophies, as both clubs have already won two trophies this season. Inter Milan won the Coppa Italia and the Italian SuperCup while Manchester City won the Premier League and the FA Cup.
This is the first time Manchester City and Inter Milan are meeting in a competitive match and it just happens to be the biggest of the season.
Inter Milan, who are thought to be the underdogs in this tie are chasing their fourth Champions League title, but the first in 13 years since winning it under Jose Mourinho in 2010. However, Manchester City, who are hugely tipped as favourites, are looking for just the first Champions League star on their kit.
Pep Guardiola’s side is considered favourites because they had a somewhat tougher route to the final where they eliminated RB Leipzig and 2020 winners Bayern Munich before tearing apart defending champions Real Madrid in the semifinal with a 5-1 aggregate scoreline.
On the other hand, Inter Milan eliminated FC Porto, Portuguese champions Benfica, and 2007 champions and rivals AC Milan on the road to the final.
Manchester City have now reached two Champions League finals in three seasons while Inter Milan have more European history, having played in five Champions League finals. Could this European history work in Inter Milan’s favour or will Manchester City’s form be enough for them to overcome the Italian giants?
Team news
Manchester City’s medical team are on a break as there are currently no injured players in their camp so manager Pep Guardiola has a fully fit squad to select the best players for the job.
For Inter Milan, there have been concerns about the fitness of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Joaquin Correa. However, the doctors have been hard at work and reports indicate both players could be fit to feature in the final.
