Tottenham Hotspur got knocked out of the Champions League by AC Milan after playing out a goalless draw in their return leg of the last 16 in the Champions League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last night.
Following a 1-0 Milan victory at the San Siro in the first leg two weeks ago, the Rossoneri advanced to the quarterfinals on a 1-0 goal aggregate with that draw.
It was a frustrating match for Tottenham players and fans alike as the Italian’s defensive discipline allowed the London club only two shots on target in the whole match. They were further dealt with the brilliance of Mike Maignan in goal.
There was nothing much to talk about in the first half of the match as no team created any clear-cut chances to score, but the second half saw Antonio Conte’s side reduced to 10 men when Cristian Romero got sent off in the 78th minute after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Theo Hernandez.
In the fourth minute of added time, Tottenham got a goalscoring opportunity when Son Heung-min delivered a pass to Kane! The Englishman rose the highest, but his effort was fantastically palmed away by Maignan. The resulting counterattack by Milan resulted in Origi’s effort to brush off the upright on the opposite end.
The aggregate win means AC Milan have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Champions League for the first time since the 2011/12 season when they knocked out Arsenal.
Elsewhere, Bayern Munich knocked out PSG win a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Erik Maxim Chuopo-Moting and Serge Gnabry. Bayern proceed to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 aggregate.
