Chelsea are on a selling spree and the latest player to be linked away from the club this summer is Pirre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Blues are currently in talks with French Ligue 1 side Marseille over a potential move of the Gabones, but the deal is still complicated even though the talks are progressing well.
A few factors that complicate this particular move include the fact that Aubameyang is on high wages of £160,000 per week at Chelsea and Marseille don’t see themselves paying that. For a move to materialise, the 34-year-old would have to take a considerable pay cut.
Another thing is Chelsea want to get a fee from the striker they bought for €12 million and still has a year left on his contract.
An official bid from Marseille and what they are willing to pay for the Gabon captain has not yet been submitted but it is expected to come when a compromise from all parties involved is reached.
Aubameyang is ready for a move away from Chelsea after a disastrous season saw him playing just 22 times, and most of them were off-the-bench appearances. He scored only three goals.
Aubameyang was supposed to return to Chelsea’s pre-season training last week on July 12 but the club have postponed his return thrice, with the new return date set to be tomorrow, Tuesday, July 18.
He has not been included in Chelsea’s pre-season tour squad to the U.S., which leaves London today. Aubameyang’s troubles at Chelsea started when former manager Thomas Tuchel was fired days after signing him, and then-manager Graham Potter barely played him.
In any way you see this, Chelsea are ready to sell since they have already sold nine players this summer.
