After a dismal season, and a long search for a manger, Chelsea have finally announced Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach
The Argentine has put pen to paper on a two-year contract and will begin his new role on 1st July 2023.
“Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward. He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages.
“His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.” Lawrence Steward and Paul Winstanley, Chelsea’s co-sporting directors said of the Argentine.
Owners Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali, José E. Feliciano, Mark Walter and Hansjörg Wyss also added that they are proud to get Pochettino join the club.
“The sporting team conducted a diligent and thoughtful process that the Board is proud of. We are delighted that Mauricio will be joining Chelsea.
“Mauricio is a world-class coach with an outstanding track record. We are all looking forward to having him on board.”
Chelsea has also confirmed that Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino will form Pochettino’s coaching staff at the club.
Pochettino is a former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG manager and has also coached Espanyol in Spain.
His major managerial achievement was guiding PSG to a Ligue 1 title and the Coup de France in 2021. The 51-year old also guided Spurs to their maiden UEFA Champions League final in 2019, only to be beaten 2-0 by Liverpool.
He is also renowned for helping young players realize their full potential as he turned Harry Kane and a couple of Spurs players into world class beaters when he was still at the North London side.
