Chelsea have announced the long-awaited signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig.
This deal was completed almost a year ago behind closed doors after the Blues agreed to pay more than Nkunku release clause to Leipzig.
The 25-year old has put pen to paper on a 6-year employment contract which starts on July 1.
“I am incredibly happy to be joining Chelsea. A big effort was made to bring me to the club and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and showing the Chelsea supporters what I can do on the pitch,” Nkunku said after being announced.
“Having played in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, I now want to play in the Premier League, one of the strongest leagues in the world. I am very excited for this challenge and will be proud to wear the Chelsea shirt.”
Nkunku finished the 2022/23 season at Leipzig as the Bundesliga top scorer and helped his side win the DFB Pokal.
Before joining Leipzig in 2019, he had played for Paris Saint-Germain – winning three Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups.
In the 2021/22 season, he was named Bundesliga Player of the Season and German PFA Player of the Season after scoring 20 goals and making 15 assists in the league.
He made his France debut last year and already has 10 caps on his name.
He joins a Chelsea side that were far from impressive in the 2022/23 season as they finished 12th on the log despite their huge spending spree.
