Premier League big spenders Chelsea are plotting a move for Barcelona star Pablo Martin Paez Gavira aka Gavi once the summer transfer window opens and reports coming in show that the talks have already started between the two parties.
Gavi has contract problems with Barcelona. The Catalan giants were unable to register the professional contract he signed in September last year until January 31st this year but the court later annulled it for late-coming.
If the situation is not fixed by June 30, Gavi will be free to leave Barcelona as a free agent and Chelsea are ready to pounce on this opportunity. Additionally, Spanish sports outlet AS.com has reported that the Blues plan to give the 18-year-old a long-term contract that will make him one of the highest-paid players at the club and in the league.
Chelsea met Gavi’s agent Ivan De la Pena three weeks ago in Madrid, Spain to formally express their interest in the player and chat ways to secure his signature and a second meeting was set up to happen in the coming weeks with Gavi’s parents expected to attend.
It is no secret that Gavi wants to stay at Barcelona, a club he joined aged 11, but their finances and ongoing court battles might not permit this so a move to Chelsea could come in handy. Chelsea’s big salary and project under a new manager next season could sway Gavi’s mind.
As one of Europe’s young top talents, Gavi has not only attracted Chelsea, but a host of other top clubs are also monitoring his situation at Barcelona.
