Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is closing in on his return to action following an ankle injury he sustained in January that has kept him sidelined since.
The Denmark international whose life and career was threatened in 2021 when he suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro opener against Finland suffered an ankle injury in the FA cup against Reading that required him to undergo surgery.
While speaking ahead of Man United’s FA Cup quarterfinal game against Fulham, United boss Erik Ten Hag gave an update on the midfielder’s state saying he would return sometime next month.
“Yes, some point in April, he will be back. He is doing really well, really good in his rehab. The progress is very good and we have to see how that develops in the coming weeks.” the Dutchman told MUTV.
Eriksen has now posted an update on his official Instagram account clearly showing the different stages of his progress . It shows the time when he had the protective boot on, then the progress to wearing trainers on the feet and lastly to his current state of putting on football boots which is a sign of recovery.
The Denmark midfielder speaking after the Carabao cup final at the end of February revealed that he was then feeling well.
“I am feeling well,” he told MUTV. “It is always boring to be in a boot(protective boot) and to be on crutches, but I have left the crutches and now only in a boot, and next week that should be gone then finally start learning to walk, but it feels good.”
Eriksen played an important role for Man United this season before his injury. He scored twice and provided nine assists in the 31 games he played in all competitions.
Due to a very busy schedule upcoming at the business end of the season, it is up to the manager to gradually integrate him into his plans when fully fit.
