Conor Gallagher has underlined the impact the faith shown to him by Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino and his backroom staff that has enabled him to demonstrate his talent at the club.
The 24-year old has started all Chelsea’s six games this season, with two of them starting as a captain.
Gallagher captained the Blues to a 2-1 victory over Wimbledon AFC in the Carabao Cup before also leading the team in their goalless draw against Bournemouth last Sunday at the Vitality Stadium .
According to the former Crystal Palace player this has underlined Pochettino’s belief in his abilities in the youth-studded squad.
“If you said to me last season there’s going to be a couple of games I will lead the team out, I feel delighted as well. That shows the gaffer’s belief in me right now.” Gallagher said.
“And ever since I first met him, to be honest, I think a lot of lads will say the same, he’s very honest and open with the players. I’ve had good chats with him and I think he appreciates what I can do on the pitch, he believes in me, so I’m really grateful for that, hopefully I can continue to help him and the team to get better results and improve as a team.”
Gallagher has been with Chelsea since he was eight years old and wants to succeed at his boyhood club.
Having spent many seasons out on loan, Gallagher was drafted into the side last year and featured in 45 games in all competitions to score three goals.
Before the transfer window got closed, a couple of English clubs expressed interest Englishman, but he opted to stay at his boyhood club.
Gallagher will be hoping to add more minutes to his tally this weekend when Chelsea tacke on Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
