Declan Rice became the first West Ham captain to lift a major trophy in 43 years after they beat Fiorentina 2-1 to win the Europa Conference League title.
West Ham will have to thank Jarrod Bowen who struck in the last minute of the match to give them the win, but Declan Rice has been on top of his game all season, so much so that he has attracted the interest of top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich among others.
In the post-match address, an elated Rice admitted there is interest from other clubs but was quick to say he still has two years left on his contract with West Ham before going ahead to express his love for the club.
“At the moment, there’s a lot of speculation going on about my future. There is interest from other clubs, that’s out there, but I’ve got two years left at West Ham ultimately,” Rice told reporters, as quoted by Sky Sports.
He added, “I love this club, I love playing for this club. There’s not been anything yet, so my focus is on playing for West Ham, enjoying tonight and then seeing what happens. I’m captain of this club, I love it to pieces and I cannot speak highly enough of this place. Let’s see what happens.”
Rice has a gentlemen’s agreement with West Ham that says the club will let him go at the end of this season if an offer worth £120 million comes in from any club that wants his services, be it paid upfront, adding up in add-ons, or transfer fee plus players.
