Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary Portuguese footballer who plays for Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, has received a special honour from Guinness World Records for his remarkable achievement in international football.
He became the first player ever to reach 200 caps for his national team during Portugal’s Euro 2024 Qualifiers match against Iceland last night on June 20. He also scored the late winner for Portugal in a 2-1 victory, adding to his tally of four goals in three games under the new coach Roberto Martinez.
Ronaldo was presented with an official certificate by Guinness World Records, confirming his status as a record holder. He also received a Portugal jersey with the number “200” on the back, symbolising his historic milestone.
Ronaldo surpassed Bader Al-Mutawa of Kuwait earlier this year to become the undisputed leader in international appearances.
He also holds several other Guinness World Records, including the most goals scored in international football history with 123 goals since making his debut in 2003, the most Champions League goals (140), most goals in a UEFA Champions League season by an individual (17), and most goals scored in the football UEFA European Championships including qualifying matches (50).
Ronaldo expressed his gratitude and dedication to the Portuguese national team and continues to do so just like the first time he played for his country.
“200 games with the same commitment, dedication, and responsibility, just like the first time I played with this jersey. I am here, continuing to score, pursuing my dream and giving my all for the team and for our country,” Ronaldo posted on his social media pages.
Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, and his latest recognition by Guinness is just a testament to his greatness and what he has contributed to the beautiful game.
