Portuguese star and five-time Balloon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo says he has plans of owning a football club after his retirement from playing the game.
The Portugal International revealed on Thursday in Madrid when asked about the possibility of moving into ownership once his playing days are over.
“I don’t rule out becoming a club owner,” Ronaldo, 38, told reporters during an event in Madrid for his new bottled water business venture.
“It’s something I thought about a few years back. I probably would like to own a [football] club. I’m at the end of my career, two to three years maximum.”
Ronaldo is currently under contract with South Arabian club Al Nassr until 2025. He joined the UAE club after leaving Manchester United in January and is reportedly being paid around $213 million (£173m) a year by Al Nassr – the most lucrative contact ever in football.
Since he started his professional career at Sporting Lisbon in 2002, CR7 has won 33 trophies which include five UEFA Champions Leagues, four FIFA Club World Cups, Seven League trophies, One European Championship and One UEFA Nations League.
If CR7’s plan do come to pass, he will emulate former Manchester United and Real Madrid David Beckham, who bought Inter Miami just immediately after retiring from football.
