Last evening, Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea announced his departure from Manchester United after 12 years at the club.
De Gea’s announcement came after he failed to agree on a new contract with Man United as well as the club’s willingness to replace him next season.
As much as the 32-year-old fell out of favour with the United bosses and a section of fans, he was a part of trophy-winning Manchester United squads during his stay at the club. He also broke and set several records, some of which Soccer Scoop has listed below.
Transfer
David De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 for £18.9 million, a British record for a goalkeeper at the time.
Appearances
De Gea made 545 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, the most by any goalkeeper at the club, six more than Alex Stepney in second place.
De Gea is the seventh goalkeeper with the most games played in the Premier League – 415 matches.
Clean sheets
De Gea recorded 190 clean sheets for Manchester United in all competitions, the most by any goalkeeper for the club.
In the Premier League, De Gea kept 147 clean sheets, the second most clean sheets in a single team, only bettered by Peter Cech’s 162 at Chelsea.
Saves
De Gea is the third goalkeeper with the most saves in the history of the Premier League, with 1,157.
He recorded 14 saves in a 3–1 win over Arsenal in December 2017 to equal the mark that was shared by Tim Krul and Vito Mannone as the Premier League record for the greatest number of saves in a single match.
Awards
De Gea has won two golden gloves at Manchester United, the most for the club.
He was also voted fans’ best player of the season on four occasions, tying with Cristiano Ronaldo. This award is named the Sir Matt Busby trophy.
He has also been voted by his Manchester United teammates as the best player of the season four times, the most for any player at the club.
De Gea won the Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and two Carabao Cups.
