Goalkeeper David De Gea made an error that cost Manchester United on Sunday as they lost 1-0 to West Ham at London Stadium.
The Spanish agonizingly failed to deal well with Said Benrahma’s poor shot in the 27th minute to gift the Hammers the lead and game’s winner. Benrahma’s shot was from over 20-yards after the West Ham forward was first to react after Michael Antonio bullied off Luke Shaw.
Before that De Gea error, United had started off the game so brilliantly and fashioned a couple of chances to break the deadlock.
Bruno Fernandes sent his low effort just meters off the mark in the 7th minutes before Christian Eriksen curlied his first-time effort over the crossbar.
But the Red Devils first realistic goalscoring opportunity fell to Marcus Rashford, who rattled the outside post with Fabianski well beaten.
After going Infront, West Ham gained momentum and could have gotten their second before the break, but were unlucky.
Both Jared Bowen and Benrahma had their attempts parried away by De Gea while Antonio shot wide after ghosting into the box.
Immediately after the break, West Ham continued their search for a second but were occasionally denied by De Gea. The United goalkeeper first blocked Thomas Soucek’s volley in the 49th minute before making a crucial touch to guide away Declan Rice’s wonderful cut back across the face of the goal.
Before the hour mark, Wout Weghorst had a chance to put United level but the Dutch forward failed to beat Fabianski.
The Westham chances of doubling their second continued in the 65th minute when Victor Lindelof nodded Antonio off the line after a nice Benrahma’s cross.
With 16 minutes left on the clock, the Hammers were denied a second due to an offside as Soucek headed in from close range after a superb Lucas Paqueta cross.
The last goalscoring chance of the game fell to Rashford when he shot at goal, only to be denied by Fabianski who tipped the forward’s effort over the bar.
With tonight’s away loss, Manchester United have now lost eight game on the road in the Premier League this season, the most away defeats in a single season.
Erik Ten Hag’s side stay fourth on the Premier League with 62 points, but are now just a point above Liverpool in the race of Champions League.
