Manchester United have excluded goalkeeper David De Gea from their retained squad ahead of next season.
This was confirmed on Friday afternoon in a club statement released confirming the retained and released players.
The Red Devils say that the Spanish goalkeeper is not on the retained list as they are still discussions with EPL golden glove winner over a new contract.
“In terms of the goalkeeping department, discussions remain open with David De Gea over a potential new contract, while Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop have had extensions triggered on their deals.” Part of the statement read
De Gea’s current United contract will expire at the end of June, with the club having a option to extend for a further year.
Last season, De Gea recorded the highest number of clean sheets, a total of 17, and solidified his position as England’s finest goalkeeper.
Manchester United have also confirmed that Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Ethan Galbraith, Di’Shon Bernard, Charlie Wellens, Eric Hanburg and Manni Norkett have been released.
