Versatile wingback Diogo Dalot scored a late goal for Manchester United as they won their second Premier League game in a row by beating Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane.
United, who were awful in the early exchanges and throughout the opening half, went ahead in the 28th minute courtesy of Scott McTominay, who scored his third goal in two games by scuffing in a volley.
But that advantage never lasted too long after McTominay handled the ball in his own area to gift Sheffield a chance from the spot. Oli McBurnie stepped up and calmly fired off the post to level matters.
Both sides had at least a chance to go into the break ahead but were unlucky.
After brilliant work in the build-up, Sheffield’s Archer got denied by Andre Onana, before on the other end, Bruno Fernandes rattled the crossbar from his free-kick attempt.
Rasmus Hojlund also had two chances to put United ahead, but the Danish failed to beat Foderingham on both attempts.
In the second half, United improved and piled pressure on Sheffield in order to get their second. This paid off with 13 minutes left on the clock when Dalot curled a long-range effort into the top corner to send the away end into celebrations.
Before that goal, United had other chances to score but failed. Marcus Rashford put his effort wide, while Sofyan Amrabat got denied by the woodwork.
United will now head into the derby with Manchester City at Etihad next weekend with two Premier League wins in the spin. They now sit eighth on the log with 15 points in their nine games.
For Sheffield, who suffered yet again another agonizing loss, will face unbeaten Arsenal at Emirates.
