Champions League action resumes on Tuesday with Chelsea hosting red-hot Borussia Dortmund at the Stamford Bridge in the 2nd leg of the round of 16 seeking to overturn the first leg result.
The Blues suffered 1-0 defeat to Dortmund in the first leg of this tie at Westfalenstadion. They will be hopeful for progression, but they will have to be more clinical infront of goal something they lacked at the iduna Park.
The 2021 Champions League winners created numerous chances in the first leg but lacked the killer punch to overcome their hosts and they were made to succumb to Karim Adeyemi’s lone strike that handed the Die Schwarzgelben the 1-0 advantage.
Chelsea were finally able to register a win. Graham Potter’s charges had gone six games in all competitions without a win, but over the weekend, they were able to secure a hard fought 1-0 victory that came against Leeds.
They had to grit their teeth to breakdown the Yorkshire side, thanks to Wesley Fofana’s header that ended a run of three losses in a row.
Chelsea do have a tough task awaiting them on Tuesday. They come up against the most in-form side in Europe as they have won all their eleven games across all competitions in 2023
Added to that, the London side has lost their last two legged tie against German opposition. 7-1 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich in 2020 at the same round is the other most recent loss.
The Yellow boys are in a bouyant mood and will fancy their chances to progress to the quarterfinals. Dortmund beat Leipzig 2-1 in their most recent encounter in the league to keep themselves level on points with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table.
