Real Madrid have had bad luck with injuries this week. After goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois ruptured his ACL on Wednesday during a training session, Eder Militao has endured the same.
During the second half of Saturday’s victory over Athletic Club, Militao fell to the ground in agony and left the pitch in tears holding his knee.
After the game, Head Coach Carlos Ancelotti feared for the worst, and now Real Madrid have confirmed the terrible news.
“After the tests carried out on our player Eder Militão, he has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days.” read part of the statement released by the Spanish giants.
After undergoing the surgery, the Brazilian is expected to be out for at least six months and this will be a blow for Ancelotti, who will also be without his starting goalie for the same time.
With Militao injured for a lengthy period of time, it’s left to be seen if Madrid will enter into the transfer market to sign a new defender. Currently they have David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger and Nacho Fernandez are the only fit options in that area.
Apart from Courtois and Militao, youngster Arda Guler, who was captured from Fernabache few months ago is also out with a knee injury he suffered during Madrid’s U.S. pre-season tour in July.
Madrid started off their 2023/24 La Liga campaign with a 2-0 victory over Athletic thanks to goals scored by Rodrygo Goes and Jude Bellingham.
