Harry Kane scored his 200th Premier League goal as ten-man Tottenham edged Man City 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Lilywhites who were without their head coach Antonio Conte got their business done in the 15th minute as Kane became only the third man (after Alan Shearer 260 and Wayne Rooney 208) to score 200 goals in the Premier League.
The goal was also a record-breaking one for the England captain as he became Tottenham’s all-time top scorer surpassing Jimmy Greaves.
Victory was Spurs’ third in a row, but it didn’t come easily. They even had to lose a man in Cristian Romero who was shown a second yellow card in the 87th minute.
Conte might be in Italy recovering from a gallbladder surgery that resulted due to severe abdominal pain, but he must be jumping in jubilation.
The win keeps his side in the fifth position, but it takes them within touching distance of the Champions League spots as Newcastle who currently occupy the fourth position are only a point above.
Tottenham North London rivals Arsenal who lost 2-1 to Everton yesterday will have to be very thankful because had Pep Guardiola’s boys won, the Citizens would have cut the lead atop to just two points.
City’s danger man and Premier League’s top scorer Erling Haaland was a shadow of himself throughout the game. The Norwegian who three weeks ago scored his fourth EpL hattrick, registered zero shots and zero touches in the box. A evidently frustrating day for him as it was the first time he’s failed to get a shot in the league.
For Haaland’s boss Guardiola, he will always remember the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a nightmare ground for him. The Spaniard has now lost all his five visits to the ground.
The loss was Man City’s fourth this term. That’s one more than they lost the entire last season.
