Erling Haaland has proved to be a beast in as far as scoring is concerned which really is his knack.
Yesterday as Manchester City demolished Leipzig 7-0 in their second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie at the Etihad Stadium, the Norwegian became only the third player to net a quintet of goals in the Champions League after Lionel Messi and Luiz Adriano.
The burly striker scored in the 22nd, 24th, 45+2, 54th and 57th, but it is his third goal that put him in the history books! That goal was his 30th in the Champions League which made him the youngest player ever at only 22 years and 236 days to reach that tally.
The record had previously been held by PSG wonder boy and World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe who reached that tally at the age of 22years and 352 days.
Haaland also became the fastest player to reach the 30-goal mark, doing so in only 25 games. Former Manchester United striker Ruud Van Nisteroy held the record having scored those goals in as many games.
It was a night of records for former Dortmund striker! He also become Manchester City’s player with most goals (39) scored in a single season surpassing Tommy Johnson’s record of 38. A lot more is expected from the Norwegian superstar as there’s still a lot to play for this season.
He was looking to break that Messi record, but was subbed in the 64th minute. Asked what he told Pep Guardiola for the Spaniard’s decision to sub him, Haaland while speaking to BT sport joked: “I told him (Pep Guardiola) I would love to score a double hattrick but what can I do?”
