Erling Haaland bagged a brace as Manchester City heaped more misery on their city rivals Manchester United in form of a 3-0 win on Sunday at Old Trafford.
The Norwegian’s first was a penalty in the 26th minute that came after Rasmus Hojlund through VAR was adjudged to have pulled Rodri in the area. The forward stepped up and sent United goalie Andre Onana the wrong way.
Haaland got his second of the game and his 11th of the season in the opening minutes of the second half when he finished off a blistering sweeping move by heading in Bernardo Silva’s cross.
The brace scorer then turned provider ten minutes to time as he set up Phil Foden for City’s third after Onana had denied an outstanding Rodri shot.
Despite conceding three goals, Onana was brilliant for United as he made some good saves throughout the game.
In the first half, the Cameroonian made four smart saves to deny Phil Foden, Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Grealish, while in the second half, he denied Haaland and Grealish again from close range.
United’s best goalscoring opportunity fell to Scott McTominay in the first half when he made a wonderful run into the box to get a volley on target, but Ederson showed his quality in tipping it over the bar.
The result means City drop down to third in the table standings, behind second placed Arsenal on goals scored, but only two points adrift of early leaders Tottenham.
It also means United have now lost five games in the league and they remain eighth on the table with 15 points.
The Citizens will return to action on Saturday evening against Bournemouth, while United plays Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
