Captain Bruno Fernandes scored in the second half to help his Manchester United side end their 2022/23 Premier League season with a 2-1 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford.
Fernandes’ goal came just 10 minutes after the break to put United ahead after Jadon Sancho had earlier cancelled out Kenny Tete’s opener for Fulham.
United had the first realistic goalscoring attempt, but Bernard Leno palmed away Diogo Dalot’s shot
Fulham responded quickly afterwards with a chance of their own, but Aleksandra Mitrovic headed over the bar.
United came close again, but once again Leno was brilliant as he denied Marcus Rashford.
With 19 minutes on the clock, Fulham broke the deadlock as Tete, at the near post headed in Willian’s corner.
Few minutes later, Fulham got a chance to double their lead after United midfielder Casemiro fouled Sam Cairney inside the area. But Mitrovic failed to convert from the spot as he sent his kick to the side where De Gea fell.
After that penalty miss, United got spurred and came close to levelling matters, but Alejandro Garnacho rattled the crossbar.
After a couple of missed chances, United finally found a way back into the game just before the break through Sancho, who was picked up by Fred in the box to score past Leno.
10 minutes after the break, Fernandes got United’s second after being set-up by Fred.The Brazilian and Portuguese combined up well in the buildup to that goal.
The Red Devils held on in the later exchanges of the game to secure the victory and finish the season third on the log, only behind to Manchester City and Arsenal.
